About the Project
Corrugated board is the packaging used mostly throughout the world for every type of product. It is light in weight, inexpensive, foldable and therefore easy to transport. At first, flame retardance may seem to be an unachievable aspect of paper and corrugated board, considering that paper is an excellent fuel that could trigger fire. Therefore, it is imperative to be taken into consideration in order to prevent serious economical and societal problems.
The high level aim of this project is the creation of biodegradable flame retarded corrugated board packages that will provide fire safety in public,office buildings,logistics centers and transportation.
The main objectives of the project are:
- Identifying the scientific and technical state of the art of the flame retardants; to develop an innovative flame retardant, effective for energy saving fire protection of cellulosic materials like paper, corrugated board and items made of them, low smoke developed index and biodegradable fire retarded materials.
- Developing a basic flame retardant solution; experimental tests of its properties and methods for fire protection of paper and corrugated board with the developed flame retardant.
- Industrial scale-up of corrugated board treatment with the developed flame retardant.
The main expected results of the project are:
- Developed flame retardant solution presenting chemical and physical properties suitable for corrugated board surface treatment.
- Produced prototypes of flame retarded corrugated board with good physical and mechanical properties.
- Industrial technology for biodegradable flame retarded corrugated board packages production.
- Achieved high quality of the flame retarded corrugated board packages.
- Produced prototypes of biodegradable flame retarded corrugated board packages.
- Promoted innovative technology to the corrugated board producers.
